Hovis London Freewheel
Part of the Mayor's drive to promote cycling, this 14km ride is aimed at all ages and abilities and takes in some of the city's most iconic sights - from the London Eye to St Paul's Cathedral. Then enjoy the entertainment and stalls in St James's Park as part of the Freewheel Festival that starts at noon. Sunday 23 September. Free but register in advance at www.londonfreewheel.com.
September Festival of Racing
A series of rides on the Hillingdon Cycle Circuit for women and children that are traffic-free and ideal for newcomers. Sunday 29 September, Hillingdon cycle circuit, Hayes, Middx. 1pm-5pm. Call John Leitch to book your place on 07963 377249 or 01737 84360.
Little Green Ride
Take the train out to Hertfordshire for an easy-paced ride along the country lanes. Your 30-mile trip will be broken with a stop for lunch at a pub - in time to be back at Finsbury Park by 5pm. Kent Oldest Bike Ride
A classic veteran ride and the chance to air your oldest set of wheels. Everything from pennyfarthings to pre-war tricycles is ridden by riders (period costume optional) in a 14-mile route across the Kent countryside.
