National Gallery

Screening of a documentary on Picasso exploring his creative processes. The exhibition Picasso: Challenging the Past will also be open. Artist and musician John Cale will discuss links between music and art. Bar and live music. Friday 7.30pm-midnight. 0844 2091778

Royal Observatory, Greenwich

A Night in Space. Premiere of planetarium show Ice Worlds, exploring frozen environments of Earth, Mars and moons of Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune. Plus access to the telescopes exhibition and time and astronomy galleries, and a star chart-making workshop. Saturday 5pm-8pm. Ages five up.

The Hunting Lodge joins the European-wide Nuit des Musees with a candlelit open evening and displays of some well-loved exhibits from the archive and old natural history museum at the Lodge. Saturday 7pm - 10pm. Entrance free for all.

Sir John Soane's Museum

Exclusive curator-led candlelit tours at Sir John Soane's Museum, with drinks served prior to tour of the extraordinary labyrinthine house that Soane created to display his many collections. Friday from 6pm onwards . £20 per person, £35 for two persons and £65 for four persons. Booking essential.
