Wilson in shock after keeper is dropped

favour of Scott Carson.
Neville Southall said the switch for the crucial Euro 2008 clash against Croatia at Wembley will end the Tottenham goalkeeper's England career while Bob Wilson claimed the "extraordinary" call is badly judged.
That the head coach has incurred the wrath of the
goalkeeper's union ahead of tonight's game indicates how bold a move he has made.
Neville, formerly of Wales and Everton, said: "McClaren is effectively sticking two fingers up at Paul and saying he does not
trust him in a big game. Paul's relationship with him will be finished. The manager is killing
Paul's international career. I can't see any logic in dropping him for the last, sudden-death game."
The decision will not help Robinson at Spurs either, where he is also under pressure and
could be replaced by Carson if the club follow up their interest in the £10million-rated Liverpool goalkeeper. Few doubt the ability of the player who is on loan at Aston Villa but Wilson does not believe he has proved himself at
the top level yet.
The former Arsenal goalkeeper said: "Against Austria last Friday he hardly touched the ball. Most goalkeeping coaches would be amazed at the idea of Carson starting a game of this magnitude.
"Prior to Robinson's air-kick against Croatia last October there was never any doubt he was the
first choice. To begin doubting him now seems extraordinary. He has been given no credit."
Robbo's blunders
Croatia 2 England 0 (11.10.06)
Robinson ensured a painful defeat, missing Gary Neville's back pass and seeing the ball bounce over his foot into the net.
Newcastle United 3 Tottenham 1 (23.12.06)
The former Leeds keeper fails to hold James Milner's cross from a deep free kick and Scott Parker takes advantage to score.
England 1 Germany 2 (22.8.07)
Germany had Robinson to thank as he made a mess of Bernd Schneider's cross and Kevin Kuranyi turned the ball into the net.
Tottenham 4 Aston Villa 2 (1.10.07)
An embarrassing double. First he dropped a corner for Martin Laursen to score, then the Dane's header went through his legs.
Russia 2 England 1 (17.10.07)
Probably the final mistake which cost him
his place. Robinson parried a shot straight
back to Roman Pavluchenko, who netted
the winner to put England's place at Euro
2008 in doubt.
