Winning lottery ticket lay buried at bottom of Angela Kelly's bag for three days
14 August 2007
She finally got round to checking her numbers for Friday's EuroMillions draw when she arrived for work on Monday.
National Lottery operators Camelot had made a series of appeals for the jackpot winner to come forward to claim their prize.
"I went to work on Monday at 7am or 8am and went for my break as usual, bought the paper and scanned through it," she said.
"I noticed somebody had won all these millions on Friday and I remembered I'd bought a ticket and thought I'd better check it. I thought I'd left it in the house until lunchtime - then I picked my bag up and noticed it was lying there.
"I realised the two star numbers were the same and thought maybe I'd won a tenner.
"I just couldn't believe it when all the numbers were in a row.
"I just sat at my desk, handed it to a colleague and asked them to check it because there was bound to be something wrong, like it was from a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't believe it. My colleagues were gobsmacked as well. Everyone wanted to touch the ticket.
"I just pushed my chair back and put my head between my knees. I was just flabbergasted.

Ms Kelly meets the press
"I rang the National Lottery phone line but phoned the wrong number I was so nervous. They said this is the gambling helpline. . . You need to call the other number on the ticket."
She was eventually put through to the correct number to declare her win.
"The woman on the other end said, "Have you written your name and address on the back? You'd better do thatî.
"My hands were shaking so much it didn't even look like my handwriting."
