Apple chief twisted truth to suit himself, says FBI dossier

Steve Jobs was a bit of a bad apple if you believe his FBI file which has just been made public.

The genius behind iPhones, iPads and iPods used illegal drugs, had a questionable moral character, a daughter he ignored for years and a willingness to distort reality, according to a previously secret dossier on the Apple chief.

It is based on a background inquiry the FBI conducted in 1991 when he was being considered for a top job in the first President Bush's administration. An acquaintance interviewed by the FBI said the late Mr Jobs would "twist the truth to achieve whatever goal he has set for himself" and that he was "a deceptive person".

The interviewee, whose name was disguised, added that Mr Jobs would still be a good adviser to the White House on international trade - because "honesty and integrity are not prerequisite to assume such a position".

The report revealed that the FBI was well aware that Mr Jobs had experimented with marijuana and LSD at university.
