You won't force me out, insists Robbo

Robinson showed some signs of his best form in Ramos's first game in charge to help Spurs to a 2-0 win over Blackpool last night and book their place in the Carling Cup quarter-finals.

It was only the second clean sheet of Tottenham's and Robinson's season and it comes after reports that Ramos wants to sign Andres Palop from his former club, Sevilla, to play in goal.

Under-fire Robinson was returning to action after missing the last three games with a calf injury.

He said: "We will see what happens and whether he makes any signings, but I am confident I am No1 at this club and that it will stay that way.

"It's very pleasing for me to get a first win for a few weeks and a clean sheet as well.

"It came on my 150th appearance for the club so it was a good night all round.

"I feel totally fit now after my calf problem. I'm just delighted to be back.

"I have barely missed a league game over the last three years and the physio had to hold me back.

"He told me if I returned too soon I could make it even worse, but it has been frustrating in the treatment room." Robinson believes Ramos, a dual UEFA Cup winner with Sevilla, has already made a major impact at White Hart Lane after three days of intense training sessions and the club will soon be a major force again.

He added: "Juande has communicated very well in English, a lot better than people think he can.

"He has an aura and confidence about him and hopefully that will breed through the whole team.

"We have worked very hard the last few days on the training ground and even did a lot of work on the morning of the game. I think we saw some of the benefits against Blackpool, but there is a lot more to come from us.

"We have been working defensively the last few days and trying to shore up at the back.

"The clean sheet reflects that, but we have a lot more work to do at the club. I think everyone saw a Tottenham team starting to get a bit of confidence and play with a bit of freedom."

Meanwhile, it has emerged that Tottenham paid a fee of almost £1million to chairman Daniel Levy's ENIC Group Limited, rising from £775,000 the previous year. The £950,000 is listed under "fees" to Levy but are paid to ENIC - the sports, entertainment and media group of which the Spurs chairman is managing director.

Levy has endured a bumpy ride so far this season and did not please critics this week when he failed to appear at the press conference for the unveiling of new boss Ramos.
