More than 12 million fans tuned into the semi-final victory during its last crucial five minutes as coach Brian Ashton's men held out for a momentous 14-9 win.
England's World Cup success has fuelled a surge in supporters wanting to reach Paris by train or plane next weekend, while demand to watch the final has seen single tickets being sold online for up £2,000.
Ashton has backed his squad to make history and become the first team to successfully defend a World Cup title when they face either Argentina or South Africa.
He said: "I can't imagine this group of players would ever be satisfied just by getting to the final.
"They have come so far on a very difficult journey during the World Cup. They want to create history."
Viewer figures revealed 12.4 million fans watched the last five minutes of the game at the Stade de France - 51% of the television audience.
The match averaged 11.2 million (47%) with an average of 9.6 million (42%) watching the whole coverage on ITV1 from 7.30pm to 10pm.
Britain's ambassador to France Sir Peter Westmacott said England supporters had partied peacefully in the streets of Paris on Saturday night.
