£6.5m drugs seized in M-way swoop

More than £6 million worth of suspected class A drugs have been seized from a vehicle, police said.

West Yorkshire Police stopped the vehicle on the M1 north-bound near Junction 38 on Friday, and recovered the drugs with an estimated street value of about £6.5 million.

Two men from the Leeds area, aged 31 and 26, were subsequently arrested on suspicion with intent to supply class A controlled drugs, a police spokesman said.

Both men are being held at a West Yorkshire Police Station and inquiries are continuing.

Detective Inspector Lisa Atkinson said: "We will continue to clamp down on those suspected of being involved in the supply of class A drugs across West Yorkshire.

"The drug trade breeds misery and those involved will not be allowed to go about their business here.

"With help from the public we will continue to tackle drug dealing at every turn."
