Amar's death 'shattered our family'

The sister of murdered teenager Amar Aslam said his death had "shattered our family."

Samreen Aslam spoke of the family's heartbreak as police continued to question seven people, including six children, about her brother's death in the walled garden of a park.

The 17-year-old's battered body was discovered by two passers-by in Crow Nest Park in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, on Sunday evening.

In a statement issued through the police, Miss Aslam said: "Nothing can replace our brother and we still believe he will come through the door.

"This has shattered our family and it won't be the same without him. There will always be a gap where there is a part missing.

"Amar's nickname was 'Moon' because he was like a shining moon to us.

"He was the second brother and the baby of the family. He was also very close to his family and especially his mum. He always kept himself to himself, was well liked by others and was always thinking of others.

"I remember that he had a lot of time for the youngsters and always used to play with his nephews and nieces. The older generation in the community also got along with Amar and he often spoke to people in the street. He was always respectful of his elders.

"One of Amar's favourite things was cars. He was into his cars like anyone his age and was saving up to buy one. He also liked listening to music and watching movies."

Officers arrested two boys aged 12 and 13, four boys aged 15 and a 20-year-old in connection with the death, West Yorkshire Police said. A post-mortem examination revealed Amar died of head injuries after a "sustained and brutal" attack.
