Army spouses 'want partner to quit'

Almost half of Army spouses would prefer their husband or wife to leave the forces, according to a newly released survey.

Some 46% told the Army Families Federation (AFF) they would be happier if their partners quit.

But 52% said they would not, many citing the financial stability it offered.

The survey, obtained by Channel 4 News, was conducted to establish current moods among Army families.

Among reasons for wanting a spouse to leave the Army, the issue raised most frequently (by 31%) was the impact on relationships between couples.

The second biggest factor (26%) was the effect on children's education and third was housing (20%).

Other issues included increasingly frequent deployments and their length.
