The England footballer caught a flight from the US after hearing his father, Ted, had been taken ill at his home in Chingford, east London.
The 59-year-old reportedly "died" on the way to hospital on Wednesday night and had to be resuscitated by paramedics.
Doctors at the Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone, east London, eventually managed to stabilise him.
He was later moved to the London Chest hospital in Bethnal Green and is in a stable condition.
Beckham looked sombre when he arrived at Heathrow, where a car was waiting to take him to the hospital.
Wearing a brown leather shirt, white T-shirt, jeans and sunglasses and with a bag over his shoulder, he looked tanned but downcast as he left the terminal building.
The footballer refused to answer questions from waiting reporters about his father's condition before he was ushered inside.
Beckham travelled to London alone but is due to be joined by his wife, Victoria, on Friday. She was working in Japan when she heard the news.
The London Chest Hospital houses the UK's biggest heart centre and Mr Beckham will now be receiving treatment from Britain's top heart specialists.
