Boy, 6, hanged in play accident
16 January 2007
Mason Jones was discovered by his mother in an upstairs bedroom of the family's terraced home in Bury, Greater Manchester.
The youngster had apparently been playing with the skipping rope with his sister.
Paramedics were called but Mason could not be saved.
Police said there were not thought to be any suspicious circumstances and the death was a freak tragedy.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said, "Just before 5.20pm on Friday, July 13 2007, police were called to a house on Walmersley Road in Bury following reports that a six-year-old boy had been found hanging by his mother.
"The boy was taken to hospital for treatment, but medical staff were unable to save him, and he died.
"A police investigation into the circumstances surrounding this boy's death was launched, but there were not found to be any suspicious circumstances, and the case has been passed to the coroner."
Mason was taken to Bury's Fairfield Hospital but doctors were unable to save him.
Special prayers were said at St Joseph's RC Church, the family's parish church, over the weekend.
