Boy dies in pylon plunge

A teenage boy has died when he fell from an electricity pylon, police said.

South Yorkshire Police said the youngster, who has not been named, is thought to have been climbing the pylon in Rotherham when the accident happened at about noon on Sunday.

A force spokeswoman said the boy may have been electrocuted before he fell from the structure in woods close to Hollins Lane, Sunnyside.

She said: "South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and South Yorkshire Police took part in a rescue operation after it is believed a teenage boy from the Rotherham area fell from an electricity pylon.

"It is believed the boy was climbing the pylon and may have been electrocuted before he fell.

"The boy has not yet been formally identified.

"South Yorkshire Police are investigating into the circumstances surrounding the incident."
