Brave youngsters honoured by stars

Woman's Own Children of Courage Awards, now in its 34th year, is one of the longest-running award ceremonies dedicated specifically to recognising the achievements of youngsters.
The winners received their awards from Mrs Brown, who was dressed in an aubergine outfit, before a celebrity-packed congregation at London's Westminster Abbey.
The event recognised children who have shown outstanding bravery and courage in difficult circumstances during the past year.
Many in the congregation were in tears as they heard how the youngsters, aged between six and 13, have shown determination and bravery in the face of adversity. Many have performed acts of extraordinary heroism while others have suffered extreme pain as a result of a disability or illness.
Among the winners was seven-year-old Ellie Bishop, from the West Midlands, who had both legs, an arm and three fingers amputated after being struck down with menigitis.
Her mother Karen Dunnaway, 25, said: "She has coped really well. She's a superstar. She spent about three months in hospital. It did feel like three years.
She said of Ellie's award: "She deserves it. It is a devastating thing that has happened to her."
During the service I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! star Cerys Matthews gave a reading of the Christmas story, Luke 2:1-16.
She said afterwards: "I'm here to honour the courage of these great children and their families. It is a real honour for me to be here. I think the superstars here today are the children."
