Briton killed in landslide at beach

The British woman killed by a landslide at a beach in Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, has been named by the Foreign Office as Marion O'Hara, 57.

It happened shortly after 4pm local time on Sunday at a small beach at Playa de los Gigantes.

The collapse of a 130ft stretch of cliff on to the beach killed another person and may have buried another two, a Spanish interior ministry spokesman said.

The local Civil Guard said the second victim was also female. It is not known where in the UK Ms O'Hara lived.

Diane Morris, who works at the nearby Bamboo Bar, said emergency workers were still at the scene late on Sunday night.

She said: "There has been a lot of activity with helicopters and there are still ambulances and fire engines down there.

"There has been a lot of speculation about it. Originally people said one person had died but now they are saying more.

"It is a little beach, more like a cove really, but it is all taped off now."

A British holidaymaker said the area was known to be dangerous.

Howard Williams told Sky News: "Police had been aware the cliff was dangerous for days, but the only thing they put in place was a bit of builder's tape."
