Briton quizzed over Gumball crash
06 January 2007
Property developer Nicholas Morley, 30, from Bowden, Cheshire, was stopped as he prepared to board a private jet at the airport of the Macedonian capital Skopje.
An elderly Macedonian man in the second vehicle, Vladimir Cepulyoski, died in hospital on Thursday, and his wife Margarita died on Friday.
Mr Morley was first arrested after his Porsche 911 collided with another car in Macedonia on Wednesday.
Mr Morley and his co-driver Matthew McConville, 36, from Prestwich, Greater Manchester, were initially released without charge pending further investigations on Friday, before Mr Morley was re-arrested late on Friday night.
A spokeswoman for the Gumball 3000 said: "Nick Morley is still in Macedonia and has been taken back into custody."
She could not say whether Mr McConville had returned to the UK, but it is understood he is free to leave Macedonia.
It is believed the two Britons waited at the scene of the crash until ambulance crews arrived to help the driver of the second car, before rejoining the race towards the Albanian border.
It is thought they reported the accident to police when they arrived at the border, and were asked to give statements.
But it is believed that as they returned to the border to continue their trip they were told Mr Cepulyoski had died and were taken back to a nearby police station, where Mr Morley was held.
