Brothers sentenced for murder

Two drug addict brothers labelled "low-life and scumbags" by police will be sentenced for killing a hard-working father who tried stop them stealing his van radio.

Balbir Matharu, 54, spotted them trying to take the radio and stood in front of their getaway car in a car park in Stratford, east London.

But Albert and Tommy Willett drove off in the car - dragging Mr Matharu along for 40m before running over him.

Albert Willett, 26, and Tommy Willett, 24, from the Clays Lane travellers' site, east London, were found guilty of murdering Mr Matharu at the Old Bailey on Wednesday.

They were remanded in custody and face life sentences.

Mr Matharu, a building company driver, was described as a decent, honourable, hard working man who lived for his family.

Outside court, Detective Chief Inspector John Macdonald said the brothers were "total low-life" and "scumbags".
