Brown rating hits new low in poll
21 January 2007
Some 60% of the public are now "dissatisfied" with the Prime Minister's performance, compared to just 27% in July and 48% in October.
The YouGov poll for the Daily Telegraph gives the Tories a solid 12 point lead - on 43% to Labour's 31%.
The findings will make bleak Christmas reading for Mr Brown after a crisis-ridden few months.
The run on Northern Rock, the proxy donations scandal, a series of data protection blunders and the police pay row have all contributed to a dramatic dip in his fortunes.
According to the latest poll, just 24% of people currently express satisfaction with the job he has done since taking office in July. More than half (51%) believe Mr Brown has been poor or very poor, against 14% who praise him as good or very good.
Meanwhile, David Cameron - who is due to arrive back from his trip to China - is basking in his highest ever approval ratings, with 47% saying he is "proving a good leader" of the Tories.
There were also some promising signs for the Lib Dems, who installed Nick Clegg as their new leader on Tuesday.
The research, carried out between Monday and Wednesday this week, found 16% supported the party - up from 13% last month and 11% in October.
