Call for more cash for rape victims

The Fawcett Society launched a campaign which will also seek an improvement in the rape conviction rate - less than 6% of cases reported to police currently lead to a guilty verdict.
It called for every area of the country to have a fully-funded rape crisis centre.
According to the campaign group, services for rape victims are in crisis, with up to half of rape centres at risk of closing due to cash shortages.
Fewer than one in four councils provide any services, and where rape crisis centres do exist they often have waiting lists of several months, the Fawcett Society said.
Director Dr Katherine Rake said: "The Government's record on rape is shameful, and this issue must now be given the priority that it deserves.
"Allowing rape crisis centres to close due to inadequate funding is a major failing by the Government."
She added: "Wholesale reform is needed to give women confidence in the system and to deliver justice to victims of rape."
