Campbell bailed in assault inquiry

Supermodel Naomi Campbell has been released on police bail after being questioned by detectives following her arrest on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.

The catwalk star, known for her fiery temper, had her latest run-in with the law at Heathrow's Terminal 5, where thousands of passengers have been hit by its chaotic opening.

Campbell was reportedly handcuffed on board the aircraft, which is believed to have been bound for the United States.

Passengers reportedly watched as police boarded the BA flight over what witnesses said involved a dispute over luggage.

They said that the model, who was discovered by a model agency in Covent Garden, central London, at the age of 15, was aggressive and abusive to staff and police.

The alleged incident comes a year after the Streatham-born star had to mop floors at New York's Sanitation Department as a community service punishment for throwing a jewel-encrusted BlackBerry phone at her maid.

Campbell's spokeswoman, Annabel Fox, said: "Naomi was flying to Los Angeles for a memorial service on Thursday April 3. She arrived at Heathrow Terminal 5 in plenty of time, checked her two bags in and was told they would make the flight.

"Once on the plane she was told one bag could not be found and was missing. BA decided to resolve this by insisting she leave the flight and then called the police to forcibly ejected her from the flight.

"She was taken to the Heathrow police station and released on police bail.

"So far as we are aware BA have still failed to offer any explanation as to why her bag went missing at Terminal 5."
