Community horrified at stab death

Family and friends of a man stabbed outside a social club have spoken of their grief.

The victim, named locally as Lucan Gordon, 23, was attacked outside the Brixton Sports and Social Club, known locally as the Domino Club, in Coldharbour Lane, Brixton, south London at 9pm on Saturday.

He was taken to a south London hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Friends laying flowers at the murder scene were planning to attend the anti-knife crime protest march in London before they heard of Mr Gordon's death.

They said Mr Gordon, also known as Swiggy, was originally from Jamaica and had celebrated his birthday the night before he was killed. His cousin Dwayne Parch, 20, said: "He was a good youth and no trouble. He was stabbed from behind while standing by the wall. He was stabbed in the left side of the neck.

"It's always the good ones who go young. He didn't stand a chance."

Police have not formally named the victim. They say no arrests have been made.

The spokesman said officers from Homicide and Serious Crime Command were investigating and that a post-mortem examination would be arranged.

The spokesman said the police are keeping an open mind at this early stage on any motive.
