Community order for 'berserk' Naomi

Supermodel Naomi Campbell has been ordered to carry out 200 hours of community service for kicking and spitting at police officers after going "berserk" on an aircraft.

The 38-year-old screamed foul-mouthed abuse at the captain of a British Airways flight waiting to take off from Heathrow Airport when one of her bags went missing during chaos at Terminal 5.

The model flew into a rage when officers arrived to remove her from the plane, lashing out and accusing them of targeting her because she was black.

She pleaded guilty at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court in west London to two counts of assaulting a police officer, one count of disorderly conduct likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress and using threatening, abusive words or behaviour to cabin crew.

Magistrates told the model that the community service was part of a 12-month order.

They also ordered her to pay compensation of £200 each to the two police officers she assaulted, and £150 compensation to the aircraft captain, Miles Sutherland. In addition she was ordered to pay fines totalling £2,300 and a £15 surcharge.

Campbell was on the flight which was bound for Los Angeles on April 3 this year and had paid £5,000 for the first class ticket.

She became aggressive and swore at the captain of the aircraft, demanding he personally got off the flight to find her bag. The court heard she refused to get off the plane and her behaviour resulted in the flight being delayed by up to an hour.

Police were eventually called when, as a final straw, they tried to forcibly remove her and the model thrashed about violently, striking one officer with her mobile phone.

She then began kicking out with her platform boots and spat at one of the officers before being arrested.
