Computer glitch problem at Heathrow

Thousands of passengers travelling from Heathrow Airport's Terminal 3 have been delayed because of a computer problem, the airport's operator BAA said.

One flight was cancelled and several others held up by a technical glitch which affected the baggage and check-in system.

Up to 6,000 passengers were prevented from entering the terminal building after check-in had to be suspended.

On Thursday night a BAA spokesman said passengers were being checked in but the process was "slower than normal".

He also warned some luggage may have been put on the wrong flights.

The spokesman said: "We are sorry for the obvious inconvenience to passengers and airlines and are working hard to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

"We continue to advise passengers to contact their airline before travelling to the airport."
