Controlled bus blast follows arrest

Police have carried out a controlled explosion on a bus, operator First said.

Part of Leicester city centre was cordoned off and the passengers were evacuated after the bus driver reported a suspicious package.

One passenger was arrested by police, according to First in Leicester.

According to local reports, a section of the city including part of Charles Street remains closed by police.

The bus was believed to be near the end of its route after travelling through the city centre when the driver raised the alert.

Bus services were affected during the evening because of road diversions, First said.
