Coroner releases Bob Woolmer body

The body of murdered Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer has been released by the coroner, Jamaican authorities have announced.

An inquest which was scheduled to begin on Monday was postponed indefinitely last week after "significant developments" in the investigation into the Englishman's murder.

The 58-year-old's body is likely to be returned to his family in South Africa soon.

A Jamaican police spokesman said: "I can confirm Bob Woolmer's body has been released. A statement was put out by the National Security Ministry today to that effect."

Woolmer was found unconscious in his hotel room in Jamaica on March 18, the day after Pakistan had been eliminated from the World Cup.

He was pronounced dead at hospital. A post-mortem examination indicated he had been strangled.

The coroner's inquest was postponed indefinitely following a statement from the Jamaican government which was released on Friday.

The statement did not give details of the developments but came just days after police revealed they had received results of toxicology tests on the body.

"The coroner has been advised there are recent and significant developments," the Jamaican justice ministry said.

"These new developments are critical to the progress and the eventual result of the investigation."
