Couple murder probe: Man sectioned

A 42-year-old man who handed himself in to police after a couple were found bludgeoned to death at their home has been sectioned.

The bodies of Dennis White, 61, and Maria White, 49, were discovered at a mid-terrace house in Belvoir Avenue, Levenshulme, Manchester, on Friday.

Post-mortem examinations showed the victims died from head injuries caused by a blunt heavy instrument.

Greater Manchester Police have been given more time to continue questioning a 36-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy, both from Levenshulme, arrested nearby soon after the bodies were found.

A police spokeswoman said: "A 42-year-old man, who was arrested after a couple were found murdered at their home in Levenshulme, has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

"Detectives continue to question a 36-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy about the incident after being granted warrants for further detention.

"Home Office post-mortem examinations carried out yesterday evening and this afternoon showed that both victims had died as a result of a head trauma caused by a blunt heavy instrument."

Detectives are treating the murders as domestic-related and are not looking for anyone else in connection with the inquiry.
