Crew quizzed over plane drugs haul

Fifteen members of South African Airways crew will be questioned over a £310,000 haul of cannabis and cocaine found in baggage at Heathrow Airport.

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) said 50 kilos of cannabis, worth £150,000, and four kilos of cocaine, worth £160,000, were found on a flight which came in from Johannesburg on Tuesday.

Ten women and five men - from both flight and cabin crew were arrested and face being quizzed by the authorities.

According to HMRC, the cannabis was in three pieces of baggage, with the cocaine also packed in one of the bags.

Officers from the UK Border Agency (UKBA) seized the cannabis after the flight came in at 8am. A further search revealed a white powder which tested positive for cocaine.

HMRC spokesman Bob Gaiger said those arrested would be interviewed by HMRC investigation officers.
