Dalai Lama arriving for visit

The Tibetan spiritual leader will receive an honorary degree from London Metropolitan University on Tuesday afternoon.

He will give a speech at the event, in central London, and will meet Tibetan students.

He will meet Prime Minister Gordon Brown later in his visit.

But he will not attend 10 Downing Street and instead will meet Mr Brown at Lambeth Palace, home of the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Critics have attacked the decision, which they claim was made in response to pressure from the Chinese government.

Later in his trip the Dalai Lama will take part in a hearing of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee.

He will also give five days of teachings from Saturday at Nottingham Arena.
