Dame Kelly to open Eurostar station

29 January 2008
The station, located in north Kent, is on the UK's first high-speed line - High Speed 1 - which runs under the English Channel to France.
High speed passenger rail services from Ebbsfleet International station to the Continent began in November after the opening of St Pancras International in London.
The four-platform station is located off junction two of the M25, near the massive Bluewater shopping centre.
Journey times from Ebbsfleet International take 1h 10m to Lille, 1h 41m to Brussels and 2h 05m to Paris - all 10 minutes less than from St Pancras International in London.
It is hoped that Ebbsfleet International will aid the planned regeneration of Ebbsfleet Valley and provide an international gateway to the 2012 Olympics.
The official opening also coincides with an announcement of the five shortlisted artists invited to submit designs for the Ebbsfleet Landmark Project.
