Sahar Daftary, 23, from London, fell from the 12th storey of the NV Buildings in Salford Quays, Greater Manchester, at around 10pm on Saturday.
The former Face of Asia winner is understood to have been to the flat to collect her belongings after her relationship with her boyfriend, Rashid Jamil, broke down.
The Manchester businessman and father-of-two was already in a relationship with another woman when his friendship with Ms Daftary began - a fact known to the model.
Keith Dyson, solicitor for Mr Jamil, said on Wednesday: "They had a lengthy relationship, he had a relationship with another woman, yes.
"They both saw the sense of getting out of the relationship - but could not leave each other. It was one of those messy situations - you can see the sense of breaking it off, but they were totally besotted with each other.
"He is extremely devastated at what has happened. He is just very, very upset, depressed and just distraught at her death."
Greater Manchester Police has confirmed that Ms Daftary had made a complaint to them earlier this year - but then decided not take the matter further by helping the inquiry.
A spokesman for the force said: "Police received a report of sexual assault in May 2008. An investigation was launched but the victim refused to co-operate further."
Ms Daftary was in Manchester at the weekend to appear on the catwalk at a fashion show at an Indian restaurant on Saturday evening - but cancelled at the last minute, saying she was sick.
