Demo planned for Bush's UK visit

Anti-war campaigners are drawing up plans to stage a demonstration against US President George Bush when he visits the UK next month as part of a visit to several European countries.

The Stop The War Coalition has criticised the visit, in mid-June, and has predicted that a large number of people would want to take part in protests.

A spokesman for the group said: "We are sure that everyone who has opposed George Bush's war policies and the slavish support he has received from the British Government will want to make their voice heard when this warmonger-in-chief visits the UK."

He added: "Stop the War will, of course, aim to organise the largest possible protest against George Bush's visit."

The anti-war group said a visit from Mr Bush was "surely the last thing" Prime Minister Gordon Brown needed following defeats in local council elections and the Crewe by-election.

The US President's UK visit in 2003 sparked one of the biggest ever midweek demonstrations in London.
