Fans of the Princess are expected to make their annual pilgrimage to her former home, Kensington Palace, to leave flowers and tie pictures and messages to the iron gates.

Princes William and Harry will remember their mother in private.

This is in contrast to last year when the royal brothers marked the 10th anniversary with a memorial service.

A Clarence House spokeswoman said: "The princes will be remembering the princess privately and in their own way."

Second in line to the throne William, 26, is thought to be continuing with his secondment with various units within the Armed Forces while Army officer Harry, 23, is stationed with his regiment, the Household Cavalry, in the UK.

The Prince of Wales, meanwhile, is at the Queen's Balmoral Estate in Scotland with the Duchess of Cornwall.

Earlier this year the long-awaited inquest into Diana's death finally ended after allowing the many conspiracy theories surrounding her fatal car crash to be aired before a jury.

The 36-year-old Princess and her lover Dodi Fayed, 42, were killed along with chauffeur Henri Paul when their Mercedes crashed in the Pont d'Alma tunnel in Paris on August 31, 1997.

In April the inquest jury found the couple were unlawful killed through grossly negligent driving by both Mr Paul and the pursuing photographers.
