Dog attack girl out of hospital
16 January 2008
The youngster suffered a 6cm-wide cut to her cheek when she was attacked by the animal on a North Yorkshire army base on Thursday.
The girl, the child of a service family, left James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough on Friday night after undergoing surgery to her face, North Yorkshire Police said.
A spokeswoman said they would not be releasing the girl's name.
The attack happened at the Alanbrooke Barracks, which are just a few miles from Thirsk.
Officers investigating the circumstances of the incident believe it happened outside, close to her home.
A 21-year-old woman, who is believed to be the dog's owner, was arrested on Thursday but was later released on police bail pending further inquiries.
She was arrested on suspicion of having a dog which was dangerously out of control in a public place. The dog has been destroyed.
Speaking in the village of Topcliffe near the barracks, Sergeant Ben Frank said: "The parents of the girl are understandably extremely upset. Nobody wants or expects this type of thing to happen.
"The owners of the dog have done the responsible thing. I'm sure that the family are still very distressed."
