The latest addition to the Royal Family - the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh's eighth grandchild - was born on Monday.
Edward and Sophie have chosen the names James Alexander Philip Theo. The baby's full surname will be Mountbatten-Windsor and his title will be Viscount Severn.
James, which has the royal connections of King James I and King James II, is a favourite name of the couple, as is Alexander.
Philip is a nod to the Duke of Edinburgh, the baby's paternal grandfather, while Theo was the baby's maternal great-grandfather.
Edward and Sophie were much quicker naming James compared with his older sister Lady Louise in 2003, when they kept people guessing for more than two weeks.
As the couple's eldest son, his title is Viscount Severn or Lord Severn.
His full surname is Mountbatten-Windsor, but he will only use Windsor.
Buckingham Palace said the Queen and Sophie's father were consulted over the names and were happy with the choices.
In a statement, the Palace said: "The Queen and Mr Christopher Rhys-Jones have been consulted and are content."
