Ex-priest fights sports event ban

The former priest who wrecked the 2004 Olympic Marathon is due in court to fight a bid to get him banned from sporting events.

Cornelius Horan, 60, was given an interim Asbo banning him from this year's London Marathon in April.

Southwark Council is returning to Camberwell Green Magistrates' Court, south-east London, arguing for a full Asbo banning him from the start of the Tour de France in London in July and future London Marathons.

Horan, dubbed the dancing priest, has wreaked havoc at a range of top-flight sporting events where he has popped up in his trademark orange mini kilt, green waistcoat and socks.

Horan, of Southwark, south-east London, lunged at Brazilian runner Vanderlei de Lima during the 2004 Olympic Marathon, costing him the gold medal.

He ran on to the track during the 2003 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, dodging Formula One cars speeding past at 200mph.

Horan, originally from Co Kerry, was also arrested at last year's World Cup in Germany where he planned to wave controversial placards about Hitler.
