Father in court over boy's murder
26 January 2007
Christopher Hawkins, 47, appeared for a brief hearing at Huddersfield Magistrates' Court charged with killing Ryan Hawkins at their home in Slaithwaite, near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, on Sunday.
He is also accused of attempting to murder his 14-year-old daughter Donna on the same day.
Ryan, who had just celebrated his fourth birthday, was found seriously ill with nine stab wounds and was pronounced dead after he was taken to hospital.
His sister suffered 23 stab wounds and remains in a serious condition in hospital.
Hawkins showed no emotion as he stood in the dock flanked by two security officers during the six-minute hearing.
Wearing a brown sweatshirt and blue tracksuit trousers, he stood between the two guards and spoke only to give his name, his address and his date of birth.
Christopher Foren, prosecuting, told the magistrates there was no application for bail and Hawkins was remanded in custody to appear at Bradford Crown Court on October 4.
