Father's 'hero son' after shooting
27 January 2007
He said: "Adam was on his way to London where he works in IT support when this terrible incident occurred.
"Knowing Adam as we do, although we were shocked to discover he had been shot, we were not surprised he received his injuries as a result of trying to protect another.
"My son's actions were extremely brave. However I would urge anyone if they know who these men are not to approach and inform police immediately."
Asked what he thought of his son's actions, he replied: "It's something that was heroic."
Mr Mapleson said Adam was stable and that he is recovering. When asked about his reaction to the incident, he said it was one of "shock".
Detective Superintendent Michael Field appealed for anyone with information about the incident to contact police.
He said Loomis, the security company that was robbed, had offered a £25,000 reward for information leading to those responsible.
Mr Field added: "The British Transport Police are sifting through an awful lot of close circuit TV footage. We are hoping there will be vital evidence that comes from it."
He urged members of the public not to approach those responsible for the attack. "They are a danger to the public. They are despicable. They are cowardly."
