Ferry cleared over paparazzi attack

Pro-hunt campaigner Otis Ferry was cleared of criminal damage after snatching the car keys of two paparazzi pursuing actress Sienna Miller.

Ferry, 25, of Cross Houses, Shrewsbury, the son of Roxy Music singer Bryan Ferry, acted to stop a group of photographers chasing the Hollywood star after last year's Bafta Awards.

Miller gave evidence on his behalf, telling West London Magistrates' Court that she felt "hunted" by the "frenzied" paparazzi.

Looking glamorous in an all-black miniskirt and jacket, the actress spoke of her fears the photographers would follow her home.

Miller said she went to a private party at west London celebrity hangout Boujis on February 12 last year after presenting an award at the Baftas.

When she left at about 4.30am with Ferry, his brother Isaac and another friend, they were confronted by "aggressive" photographers.

Describing how she ran to her car, Miller said: "In any situation, if you're a woman and you're running and there are men chasing you, it's a threatening situation."

The court heard on two occasions Ferry got out at traffic lights and grabbed the key from the ignition of two of the photographers' cars. He said he got the idea because his father did the same when he did something "silly" while learning to drive.

District Judge David Simpson ruled that Ferry's actions were "impetuous" but did not constitute criminal damage in the legal sense.

Speaking outside court, Ferry said he was "relieved" by the verdict and called for a new law to stop paparazzi hounding celebrities in this way.
