Fifth teen on murder charge remand

A fifth teenager has been remanded in custody over the murder of 16-year-old Shakilus Townsend.

The 16-year-old-boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Sutton Magistrates' Court.

He was remanded in custody until October when he will appear at the Old Bailey.

On Thursday four youths also appeared at Sutton Magistrates' Court charged with murder and were remanded in custody.

Shakilus, from Tanners Hill, Deptford, south east London was beaten with a baseball bat and stabbed in an attack in Thornton Heath, south London, last Thursday and died the next day.
