Fire crews tackle large hotel blaze

A fire broke out at a hotel in east London.

The emergency services were called to reports of a blaze at the Custom House Hotel in the Docklands area of the capital.

Parts of Victoria Dock Road and Freemasons Road were closed as fire crews tackled the incident.

A spokesman for London Fire Brigade said 50 firefighters were battling the blaze with 10 standard fire engines and two cherry-picker appliances which allow crews to douse the flames from above.

Hotel residents had been evacuated, but neighbouring buildings were not thought to be at risk.

The fifth floor and part of the building's roof were on fire.
