Footballer denies nightclub assault

A Championship footballer has pleaded not guilty to attacking a man outside a nightclub.

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, who plays for Wolverhampton Wanderers, is charged with causing actual bodily harm and a public order offence of causing alarm, harassment or distress.

The incident which led to the charges is alleged to have taken place outside the Candy Store nightclub in Plymouth, Devon, at 4.15am on November 11 last year.

The 21-year-old striker of Renaissance Gardens, Plymouth, was playing for Plymouth Argyle at the time.

Plymouth Magistrates' Court heard that Greg Smith, a 37-year-old man believed to be a doorman, suffered a two-to-three inch cut to his head.

Ebanks-Blake was given unconditional bail and will next appear at 10am on April 11 when the case is expected to be committed to Plymouth Crown Court.
