Nassirudeen Osawe, 16, was shopping with two friends on Upper Street, Islington, north London, on Thursday afternoon when they got into a row with a man at a bus stop.
The teenager and a 17-year-old friend were stabbed in the confrontation. The older boy survived but Nassirudeen died at the scene, only days before his birthday on January 2.
An 18-year-old was arrested at his north London home at noon on Sunday in connection with the inquiry and taken to a north London police station. He was bailed to return in the middle of January 2008 pending further inquiries, police said.

A fourth person, a 17-year-old boy who was arrested at his home on Friday evening and taken to an east London police station, was released without charge.
Nassirudeen, a talented artist who was studying A-level art at St Charles Catholic Sixth Form School in North Kensington, west London, was the 27th teenager killed in London this year.
His family has called the public to help "to get the people who are responsible for the murder of our son and brother off the street".
