Gas supply restored to most homes

Less than 2,000 properties are not reconnected out of the 18,000 Lancashire homes affected by the ruptured gas main which set alight an electricity pylon on Monday.
A team of 65 engineers on Thursday continued to revisit addresses in the Rossendale area where they have been unable to gain access.
It is thought that many of those not in will be either spending Christmas elsewhere with relatives or on holiday.
Families in Bacup, Waterfoot, Rawtenstall, Newchurch and Crawshawbooth feared being unable to cook their Christmas Day turkey following the blast in Holme Lane, Rawtenstall.
The incident at the sub-station also knocked out electricity to 30,000 homes in the area, which was restored soon after.
Work to repair the damaged gas pipe was completed on Tuesday morning, but engineers had to repressurise and test the system and check each individual property.
Addresses which remain empty after Thursday's visits will have a card placed through the door advising the occupant of the situation and asking them to contact the company for reconnection.
A National Grid spokeswoman said: "We have had about 100 phone calls this morning and our team of engineers have gone round to those addresses and reconnected their supply.
"Engineers will remain on site in the area today, Boxing Day and throughout the weekend as people return to their homes. The advice is simple - call us and we will get the supply back up and running."
