George, 47, of Fulham, west London, pleaded not guilty to murdering Miss Dando, who was shot outside her house in Fulham in April 1999.

The judge Mr Justice Gross said George would face trial on June 2 next year.

George was remanded in custody after the judge turned down an application for bail.

It will be George's second trial for the murder.

He was found guilty at a previous trial in 2001 and has been in jail since serving a life sentence.

But last month, the Court of Appeal quashed the conviction and ordered a retrial.

George lived half a mile from the 37-year-old BBC News, Crimewatch and Holiday presenter.
