Girl, 7, took knife to school

A seven-year-old girl brought a knife in to her school after a playground spat, a head teacher said.

Staff at Broom Leys Primary School in Coalville, Leicestershire, discovered the knife after another pupil showed it to two children during a morning break.

Head-teacher Robert Prior said the knife was similar to a steak knife.

He said: "There was no way she intended to threaten another child. They had, as little girls do, an argument over friends."

In a statement, he added: "After investigating the incident, I am satisfied that the knife was not brought into school with any malicious intent, nor was it used to physically threaten any child.

"This was out of character for the child concerned. The child's parents are co-operating fully with the school to ensure that there will be no repetition of these circumstances."

Mr Prior said that police had been called but were satisfied the matter had been dealt with properly.
