The youngster, named locally as Sophie Finucane, was rushed to hospital following an incident at her home in Gorton, Manchester.
A 19-year-old man, thought to be her boyfriend, was arrested nearby on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody.
A force spokesman said: "The girl's condition hasn't changed. She is critically ill but she is still with us. A man remains in custody and is being questioned."
Police were called to the girl's flat in Ashover Avenue at 6am following reports of a shooting.
Neighbours described large groups of young people entering the property on Friday night and it is thought there had been a party.
They said Sophie had initially lived at the flat with her mother, who moved out a few months ago.
More recently, neighbours believed the teenager had been living at the house with a male cousin.
One man said he saw "up to 16" people entering the house on Friday evening. He said: "There are always comings and goings from that house."
The Channel Four series Shameless is based on the West Gorton estate, and some of the programme's locations, including a pub and a grocery store, are close to the girl's home.
