Chloe Grayson was at a New Year's Eve party at a neighbour's house in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, when the 10-stone dog savaged the youngster's face.
Police are investigating the incident and have seized the two-and-a-half year old male Rottweiler, known as Bully.
Chloe has been left permanently scarred after the attack at a house on Wilberforce Road in South Anston.
She has had plastic surgery and may have to return to hospital for further operations, a South Yorkshire Police spokesman said.
The attack came just three days after 13-month-old Archie-Lee Hirst was killed by a Rottweiler in the back yard of his grandparents' home in Wakefield.
Despite attempts by his 16-year-old aunt to save him from the dog's jaws, the youngster died later in hospital.
Chloe's mother Nicola Grayson said her daughter had been playing upstairs with her sister and two other children and had come downstairs when the dog snapped.
She told the Sheffield Star: "She came into the kitchen to ask me for a drink and the dog was standing next to her. Then it just pounced and went for the face, starting at her hairline and then dragging its teeth down her face until they sunk into the fleshy part of her cheek. The dog then shook its head, ripping her cheek open and narrowly missing her eye. She has some nerve damage and is scarred for life."
Superintendent Keith Lumley, from South Yorkshire Police, said: "We can confirm that we are working closely with the family of a child who was involved in an incident on Wilberforce Road during which she received injuries from a Rottweiler dog.
