Glitter ends sex register challenge

The former 1970s glam rock star signed the register on his return from Vietnam, where he served nearly three years in prison for molesting two young girls.
He was due to appear in court next month to challenge the order but his solicitor withdrew the appeal in a letter to the court, a spokesman for Harrow Crown Court said.
The spokesman said the Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, had his appeal withdrawn on Wednesday. In the letter, Glitter's solicitor said his client did not think he would get a fair trial because of media attention on the case.
The decision means Glitter's name will remain on the register for life along with his address, date of birth and National Insurance number.
He will be required to notify the police if he moves house, or stays somewhere else for seven days.
The register also requires him to tell police if he intends to travel abroad for three days or more.
A foreign travel order granted at Ashford Magistrates' Court in September prevents him from going to France and Spain. The order is in place until the end of March.
Police can apply for a foreign travel order if they think one is needed to protect children outside the UK from serious sexual harm.
Breaking the terms of the register is a criminal offence and can lead to a prison sentence of five years.
