Government funds new rock star show

The three-part show will encourage young people to carry on studying foreign languages, the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) said. It has been part-funded by the Government as part of their new £6 million advertising drive to increase the number of 14-year-olds choosing to study a language at GCSE.
The programme, Je Suis Un Rock Star, is being aired on Channel 4 and T4, and will see 12 young people compete to join the Liverpudlian band The Wombats on their European tour.
The band are set to travel to Scheessel, near Hamburg; Ibiza; and the Arras, near Lille, and the three winners will join them as their "fixers" - ensuring the smooth running of the show.
The DCSF said each episode will test their ambition, initiative and knowledge of the local language "to the maximum" as they are asked to complete tasks set by the band.
Schools minister Jim Knight said: "This campaign is part of our bigger drive to make language learning exciting and inspiring.
"The fantastic thing about the internet and multi-channel TV is that young people can access the things they are interested in like football or music, wherever it's happening in the world.
"We want to use this to encourage them to learn the language of their favourite footballer or band - Je Suis Un Rock Star is the perfect example of this."
