Bill Rodgers, 96, tied the knot with his long-term girlfriend at his home in Cherrybank, near Perth.
He courted 74-year-old Liz Stewart for more than a decade before asking for her hand. The retired managing director of Camerons, the house furnishers, decided to propose after suffering three life-threatening illnesses.
About 50 relatives squeezed into the living room of the bungalow for the ceremony. They included Mr Rodger's two daughters, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. They then headed for Craigie Hill Golf Club, also in Cherrybank, where a lavish reception was held.
"It has been a beautiful day, I have got a lovely family, and I have enjoyed every moment of it," gushed Mr Rodgers from the golf club.
The guests then headed back to the couple's house for a "late-night party", he added. The couple, who are both widowed, will continue to enjoy regular holidays in the sun, supporting St Johnstone FC and general companionship.
But as for a honeymoon, there were no immediate plans. Mr Rodgers said: "After the furore has died down and I see what money I have got left in my current account, I might consider something.
"I would like to go to the north of Scotland, I haven't been up there."
He accepted getting married at his age was not the norm - but said he was bowled over by the attention his wedding had received.
"I'm utterly amazed at the publicity," he said. "I suppose it is unusual to get married at 96."
